There are two ways to put translations on a page, and Google reads only one of them. Pasted as a tag, the translation is swapped in while the browser draws the page. Your readers see every language, and Google sees one address in one language. Fetched into your build, the translations ship as files your own site serves. That gives a real page per language, which is what Google indexes. The translations are the same either way.
